>PHILIPSBURG:--- At least one of the eight Ministers that are part of the Gumbs cabinet has agreed to submit his resignation on Tuesday to the Governor of St. Maarten. SMN News learnt that Minister Claret Connor who was removed from the Ministry of TEATT and placed at the Ministry of VROMI has agreed to break the stand-off in order to avoid an unrest by the people of St. Maarten. The source said Connor has given the majority in Parliament full guarantee that he will not go along any longer with the Prime Minister who has so far refused to respect the constitution of St. Maarten and hold the Governor of St. Maarten hostage. SMN News tried contacting Minister Connor by telephone Monday night but he could not be reached for an official comment.
SMN News further learnt that a second Minister will also submit his resignation shortly since the Member of Parliament who appointed him publicly acknowledged that there is a new majority in Parliament and has made her position as vice chair of parliament available.
The source said that Minister Ernest Sams will also submit his resignation to the Governor but the date and time when he will do that was not made known to anyone.
SMN News also learnt that Member of Parliament Cornelius de Weever also submitted his resignation as second vice chair of parliament on Friday but he did not make it public. It is not yet known if MP Cornelius de Weever informed the Minister he appointed and if that Minister will also do the honorable thing and resign.
