Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG – The United People’s (UP) Party Board announced on Wednesday, March 29, that the party’s parliamentary faction has called for two meetings of Parliament.
The UP faction has requested an urgent meeting via the President of Parliament to have the Minister of Public Health be present to provide information related to developments surrounding the proposed new General Hospital, the current state of affairs at the St. Maarten Medical Center, and overall matters related to public health.
The second urgent meeting request is related to developments at the Prison in Pointe Blanche.
The UP faction via the President of Parliament, has asked for the Minister of Justice to be present in the meeting to discuss how Government intends to resolve the very worrisome situation at the prison.
Signatories to the two letters are: Member of Parliament (MP) Theodore Heyliger, MP Tamara Leonard, MP Franklin Meyers, MP Sidharth Bijlani, and MP Claret Connor.
The aforementioned issues are of great concern to the St. Maarten community as it is related to the quality of health of the populace.
The volatile situation at the prison has placed the safety and well-being of the staff and prisoners at risk, leaving family members of those who work at the facility and who are housed at the house of detention, concerned about what is going on and whether the aforementioned in finding solutions is a serious priority of Government.
