Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – One of the Members of Parliament elect in the just concluded parliamentary election, Christopher Emmanuel who has not assigned his signature to the signed agreement between the National Alliance and the United Peoples Party, made it clear Monday afternoon that he has no intention of leaving the NA or jumping ship.
The Member of Parliament was notably absent during the signing of the document paving the way for the formation of the next government.
Signing the paper indicating their willingness to form a coalition government were the leader of the National Alliance, Silveria Jacobs, Egbert Jurendy Doran, William Marlin, Ardwell Irion and drs. Rudolphe Samuel with the exception of Christopher Emmanuel. From the United Peoples Party were the partys leader Rolando Brison, Grisha Martin-Heyliger, Omar Ottley and Sidharth Cookie Bijlani.
However, while Mr. Emanuel is willing to add his signature to the already inked document, he too, according to him, is presenting a paper to be signed which calls for the pledge of allegiance to the people of St. Maarten and therefore, no ship jumping should take place during this governing period. According to the Member of Parliament elect, in the document, he and his team is presenting five points and that they are simple points.
These points are simple points. One, you will not jump ship, Emmanuel said, adding that when we pledge allegiance to the King of Holland, we also pledge allegiance to the people of St. Maarten. It is against this backdrop he also noted that when election is over, no one pledges allegiance to the people of St. Maarten and as a result, the people of St. Maarten have become obsolete.
