>PHILIPSBURG:--- A board member of the St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation (SMHDF) Elston Fos was attacked in his yard by a lone gunman late Friday night. SMN News understands that Fos who lives in the Belvedere area escaped unharmed because the weapon the gunman tried to fire at him jammed. It should be noted that Fos is the board member of the SMHDF along with another board member who suspended Henry Lynch on Friday morning for financial discrepancies.
Chief Commissioner of Police Peter de Witte confirmed that the SMHDF board member was attacked by a lone gunman but the weapon malfunctioned. De Witte said that the police are busy investigating the case since it relates to the suspension of the SMHDF director Henry Lynch. De Witte also confirmed that the incident took place in the yard of Elston Fos. De Witte said the police conducted a forensic investigation where the incident took place as they continue to investigate.
It is further understood that while police are busy investigating the incident Fos went into hiding since he feared for his life.

MP Franklin Meyers Denounced Reports.

Reports late Friday night states that several members of Parliament are peeved with the decision taken by the SMHDF and thus this has brought a strain on the current coalition government. In a BBM broadcast it states that Member of Parliament Franklin Meyers and others are contemplating to leave the coalition government. In an invited comment MP Meyers said that he knows nothing about what is written or broadcasted via BBM. MP Meyers made clear that he is not a man that would jump ship to form government with any other political party. He said that when he was a member of the Democratic Party and things were not going right he resigned from the party and as a founding member of the United Peoples Party he does not intend to leave the party to form government with any other political party. "I want to make clear if the current coalition fall I will serve as an honorable member of the UPP on the opposition benches."
