Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections

PHILIPSBURG: --- Former United Peoples Party (UPP) caNDidate NDidate' href='/newspolitician/687/lyNDon-lewis'>LyNDon Lewis confirmed on Friday that he will be contesting the 2024 parliamentary election on the NOW slate. Lewis said that he took the decision Thursday evening after his resigSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAtion letter went viral.He maintained that the reason he left the UPP was because he could not get a commitment from the leader of the UPP NDidate' href='/newspolitician/712/rolaNDo-brison'>RolaNDo Brison aND a number to contest the 2024 Parliamentary Elections on the UPP slate. Lewis said that was pushed to resign after receiving an email from the Minister of TEATT Arthur Lambriex informing him that he is no longer a staff of the TEATT cabinet.Lewis who is currently off the islaND because of a family emergency said that he feels that the UPP party did not show any empathy even though they know what he is facing. He said the UPP leader was sUPPosed to ensure that he leaves the cabinet aND takes up a new function at the EDC. He said that the new position was discussed when the party leader told him that the Minister of TEATT would need someone to assist him with legal advice on various projects.
Contract with Olivier ArriNDell.
Asked if he signed an agreement with businessman Olivier ArriNDell, Lewis said that he did sign an agreement with ArriNDell after he was contacted by ArriNDell who wants to promote him as a political caNDidate. "I signed an agreement with ArriNDell as a political advisor, to boost my political campaign. whether I ran on UPP or NOW. The main objective is getting the people to know who is NDidate' href='/newspolitician/687/lyNDon-lewis'>LyNDon Lewis aND my objectives. Lewis says the idea is to get a political platform that will boost his campaign free of cost.
I have never obtained sponsorship for my political campaign even though I ran on the USP aND the UPP in former sSPArty/23/national-alliance'>NAp elections. People do not purchase billboards or grant me free interviews during political campaigns. I accepted ArriNDells proposal which is free of cost because I need my message to reach the people of St. Maarten.Lewis went on to say that they listened to the UPP leader NDidate' href='/newspolitician/712/rolaNDo-brison'>RolaNDo Brison who was on the radio on Friday morning aND stated that he was not going to work, aND he is off the islaND for four months. I can say that is a blatant lie. These people have no empathy for anyone," he said he was sUPPosed to return to work on August 16th but family emergencies have kept him overseas.Lewis further explained that he uNDerstaNDs ArriNDell even though he is not in full agreement with what he does in his chats. However, I do uNDerstaND the reason he got to this point. ArriNDell aND my person have been victimized by the system as such I believe that we both share the same experience. Lewis said that ArriNDell has been fighting for an EOC license for the past 10 years aND he felt he has been victimized even though he was born on St. Maarten. Many people are victims of the system aND this needs to stop. Here you have a local man who cannot obtain the licenses to coNDuct business in his own country. Lewis conclUDed.
