PHILIPSBURG--The Democratic Party ((DP)), Concordia Political Alliance (CPA) and One St. Maarten People Party (OSPP) have not yet submitted their donation registers for the August 29, 2014 Parliament Election to the Electoral Council. Three parties submitted their registers prior to the deadline and two after the deadline.

The three parties that have not yet submitted their registers to the council are "urgently requested" to do so by the council to avoid measures being taken against them as is laid down in Article 44 of the National Ordinance on Registration and Finances of Political Parties.

The council only listed the parties in its press statement issued on Thursday evening that submitted their donation registers before the February 1 deadline, and those that did so after the deadline.

Citizens for Positive Change (CPC), United People's (UP) party and Social Reform Party (SRP) submitted their registers before the deadline stipulated in the national ordinance.

After the deadline, the National Alliance (NA) and the United St. Maarten (US) Party submitted their donation registers to the Electoral Council.

Eight political parties are registered with the council, but only six participated in the elections. CPC and CPA opted not to contest the elections for the 15 parliamentary seats.

After reviewing the donation registers of the 90 candidates who contested the parliamentary elections, the Electoral Council has requested several candidates to provide supporting documents for clarification of their registers. To date, a few candidates have neglected to do so within the allotted time frame.

The Electoral Council urges candidates who have not yet supplied the requested documents to do so before Friday, February 13.

The council remind all persons concerned that violation of and non-adherence to the national ordinance will result in a penalty being imposed.
