Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - The National Mental Health Plan 2014 – 2018 was presented to the Minister with the responsibility for Health Social Affairs and Labor, the Honorable Cornelius de Weever.
The plan was presented by head of Collective Prevention Services, Dr. Virginia Asin Oostberg during a press conference on Wednesday.
An action plan for the same period was also presented. In 2012, Dr. Virginia Asin Oostberg was commissioned by the Minister to lead the planning process and create a National Mental Health Plan for the island.
Also on hand for the presentation was the director of the St. Maarten Health Care Foundation, Ilene Healey and president of the Alzheimer's Foundation, Drs. Raymond Jessurun.
Speaking at the presentation of the document on Wednesday, Drs. Raymond Jessurun noted that things don't always go smoothly.
He also spoke of the plight of senior citizens regarding Dementia. Meanwhile, in receiving the plan, the Health Minister Cornelius de Weever stated that the document is not just a document. It is for everyone on the island.
The document will also be made available via among others, the government website. Minister de Weever also expressed his gratitude towards those persons that were involved in the realization of the document.
Meanwhile, Director of the Mental Health Foundation Ilene Healy commended the Health Minister and his Ministry for taking the initiative in presenting the plan.
"It is really great to have a plan, a guideline for us to work with. Mental Health was not establish without a plan," Ilene Healy said.
