Brug Says We Have To Move Our ChildrenS Stomach Gauges From Empty To Full

PHILIPSBURG Unified Resilient Sint Maarten Movement (URSM) prospective candidate Richinel Brug, expressed in a press statement his dissatisfaction with the level of political rhetoric at the start of each school year. Beautiful words do not improve the quality of education, the labor conditions of teachers, nor fill empty stomachs.

I find it quite disturbing that at the start of each school year Government officials are able to summarize the list of challenges parents face: expensive school uniforms, school contribution (referred to by most in the community as school fee), school material, etc., while they refuse to do anything about it Read more

Cps Meets With Pastors And Spiritual Leaders As Part Of Covid-19 Community Outreach

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) In its continuous efforts to reach out to different stakeholders within the community, the Collective Prevention Services (CPS), a department from the Sint Maarten Ministry of Public Health, Social Development and Labour (Ministry VSA), met with spiritual and church leaders at the Government Administration Building on April 24 to discuss how they can provide valuable support in the CPS COVID-19 Community Outreach Campaign, and in support of the visits of Community Awareness Volunteers (CAV) to various neighborhoods.

In the absence of church services and under these difficult circumstances, it is crucial that religious leaders stay in contact with their respective members through WhatsApp and virtual sessions, to provide moral support and share important information.

CPSs representatives Maria Henry and Jane Pattipeilohy, from the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), and representatives of the Red Cross: Mitchell Horsford, Asma Berkel and Henk Veerdig, met with nearly 20 religious leaders from all over Sint Maarten, and discussed their important role in disseminating accurate COVID-19 information and facilitating the visits of CPS team of volunteers in the neighbourhoods aimed to assist persons with possible COVID-19 symptoms.

Other important messages brought forward by CPS for the public: Do not wait to call your physician if you have flu-like symptoms; if you do not have a General Practitioner or cannot reach your physician: Call CPS at 914 without delay and; do not go to the Emergency Room of the St Read more

Marinka Gumbs: The Way I See It….

As I ponder over the latest campaign rhetoric, coming out of the USP camp, I wonder about the use of some words and terms by the USP’s political leader. I want to give the author and the presenter of the latest USP release the benefit of the doubt, because surely had both these persons given any serious thought to the use of the word MANIPULATION, as an accusation directed to members of the United Democrats, the USP would have refrained from the word manipulation. Imagine, accusing others of manipulation and this coming from the one who is best known to have orchestrated the “Carnival Coupe” Read more

Response To Usp

The Democratic Party has been one of the longest serving parties in the history of St. Maarten.  We have had our ups and downs, but we have been there for the people of St. Maarten, now more than ever before. Our main goal was and continues to be, “how can we make our island a better place for the people of St. Maarten”.

To hear a political party, who welcomed the leader of the Democratic Party as the chairlady in one breathe and denounce her in the next, say some of the most unprofessional things is a shame to say the least.  This berating article from the USP board comes as no surprise, because the same lowdown type of message was previously shared in the NA/USP/DP coalition WhatsApp chat.

Yes, the “testicular fortitude” message from the hand of a TEATT cabinet staffer, singling out 2 leaders of the coalition and calling the other (female) leader “spineless” Read more
