Man shot in stomach in robbery at Guana Bay

~ Second home robbed ~

GUANA BAY--A man was shot in his stomach during an armed robbery at his home on Pen Shell Road in Guana Bay in the wee hours of Thursday morning.

A second home in the area also was robbed around the same time. Prosecutor Karola van Nie confirmed that there had been two robberies in Guana Bay. She said a man had been shot during one robbery, but his condition was not life-threatening.

Employee steals US $70,000 cash, $20,000 worth of gold from boss

PHILIPSBURG--A Dominican Republic national working as a security officer at the Son Latino Bar, restaurant and nightclub was amongst five persons arrested on Tuesday for stealing more than US $70,000 in cash and over one kilo of gold and jewellery worth some US $20,000, from the home of his boss E. Garcia on Monday.

The five were arrested at Princess Juliana International Airport SXM trying to flee the country. Robbers Make Big Hole In Wall Of Grocery Store

Illegal home on disputed family land is unlawfully demolished

MIDDLE REGION--A young couple is left homeless after their new, quickly but illegally built wooden home was bulldozed on Tuesday by one of the many distant relatives of the land’s original owner. Man Shot On Front Street

Police arrest armed restaurant robbers

COLE BAY--Police on Monday arrested three men who had just committed an armed robbery at a restaurant on Wellington Road in Cole Bay minutes earlier.

The men were detained around 5:00pm on August 3. Acting Police spokesperson Steven Carty said two masked men brandishing firearms had robbed the restaurant. The men stormed into the establishment, grabbed money from the cash register and ran outside where a vehicle had been waiting.

Jet ski driver released, did not have a licence

PHILIPSBURG--The jet ski driver who was detained on Friday after an incident with a passenger has been released.

Helena Jewellers robbery Fri captured on camera

PHILIPSBURG--The three men who carried out a brazen daylight robbery at Helena Jewellers on Front Street on Friday were captured on camera fleeing the scene with their faces masked and holding about four bags.

No arrest in threats, shots fired at harbour, matter under investigation

PHILIPSBURG--Authorities have not yet made any arrests in the incident which occurred outside the Harbour in mid-July where two armed men, one of whom is said to be a taxi driver, threatened a licensed taxi driver of Haitian descent with guns and fired two shots into the air over the transport of passengers.

Woman found dead in house

ZAGERSGUT--Authorities found a woman dead in her home on Tassel Road, Zagersgut, late Monday, acting police spokesperson Steven Carty said.

According to Carty, someone called the police around 6:30pm Monday to make a report after not seeing the woman, who was their neighbour, for several days. Apparently the person looked through a window and thought something was amiss.
