PHILIPSBURG--Eruption in Paradise was a dud.  Bobby Ottley from BOSE Promotions had promised 42 rounds, five professional fights and several amateur bouts.  The less than 200 people who turned up at L.B. Scott Sports Auditorium saw five fights Saturday.   Thus after Ottley cancelled Eruption the second time set for May 30 stating ‘We learned in December we need to offer a full card.”
  Two fights were amateur exhibitions and three were pro bouts.
  That is not to say there were not fireworks.  
  In fact when MC came into the ring to explain it would be just a few more minutes for action to start, Eruption was billed to begin at 8:00pm, hecklers stood up and exploded in anger.
  The first bout pitted Anderson Adamos from St Eustatius against Shomar Bertrum.  Bertrum slipped and fell in the first round but went on to win the fight by technical knockout when the fight was stopped at 1:37 in the third round.
  The second fight was announced and just a few minutes later the crumbling ground was told all the amateur bouts had been cancelled.  Moments later Malcom Philips from St. Maarten entered the ring went to the red corner and sat down and waited.  Finally   Ray Hazel of St. Kitts emerged and the bout was back on.  But wait Philips an amateur was required to wear head protection.  There was a quick scrambled by officials and head protection appeared.  It is unclear if the protector was the wrong size or just was not adjust properly. But for the entire fight Philips struggled just to see his opponent as the protector shifted repeated over his eyes. Hazel out lasted Philips.  The taller Phillips dominated the early rounds but in the third Phillips looked exhausted and the fight was stopped at 1:48 in the third.
  Third up was Lightweight 135 pound four-round contest between Sydney Maccow from St. Maarten and Romero Miguel from the Dominican Republic.  
  The fight was a battle. Maccow would attack and Miguel would counter or clinch.  He went to the ropes and tried to hang on several times and had one point deducted.  He failed to answer the bell for the third round.
  In the UBF Female Heavyweight Title fight Gwendolyn O’Neil won a split decision over Sonya Lamonakis of Greece in a match then went the full 10 rounds.  The IBO Super Bantamweight Title fight was slated to pit Karim Guerfi of France against Javier Franco of Mexico.
  However it was Miguel Cartagana who stepped in the ring against Franco and won by unanimous decision.
