Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – Minister of Public Housing, Environment, Spatial Planning and Infrastructure (Ministry VROMI) Hon. Maurice Lake who was very instrumental in securing the last in Madame Estate for a new mental health facility, says he is very pleased with the plans from the Mental Health Foundation.
Minister Lake pointed out that mental health is very important. "The mental health of the people is key because it has to do with the individual and it impacts your daily life. We are one nation and nobody should be left out, even those who suffer from mental illness.
"We have to protect those who are not able to do so themselves.
We have to look out for our youth, the disabled and our seniors. Mental health undermines the welfare of our nation. It is a health issue that can strike anyone.
"I am very pleased that the Mental Health Foundation is moving forward and upward to build a state of the art facility that will be there for the nation, and I am proud to have been part of this process.
"Ill health of the nation is an economic challenge that holds back prosperity and the people's quality of life. Therefore it is so important to build our new state of the art hospital for the people.
"Earlier this year I met with the management and a board representative of the St. Maarten Medical Center and was informed about the challenges and with the current facility.
I told them that my Ministry VROMI is ready to help with the permits to get this project moving forward and upward," Minister Hon. Maurice Lake said on Thursday.
