Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
St. Maarten – Opposition parties National Alliance and Democratic Party have “wasted no time†to request a meeting of parliament about the settlement between the Harbor Group of Companies and developer Zebec, the parties said in a press statement last night.
“The government-owned harbor company and its representatives have in the recent past labeled the action by Zebec as “wholly without merit,†the opposition parties point out. “The claims by Zebec were “a blatant misrepresentation of the facts. In a roundabout way the Zebec representatives were accused of lying. The lawsuit Zebec initiated was deemed frivolous and the harbor has stated that it would look into options to recover damages from Zebec.â€
NA and DP note that they now have to learn from newspaper reports that “Zebec is being paid out†and that “the details are subject to a non-disclosure agreement.â€
The parties wonder what could have transpired “to cause such a drastic turn whereby the harbor, rather than recover damages, has to pay damages?†This means that the taxpayer has to foot the bill, NA and DP state.
The opposition parties look forward to the meeting being held within the period stipulated by law, namely four days.
