PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Eight members of Parliament signed a letter Thursday which calls for an Emergency meeting of Parliament to handle a few appointment matters.
The main agenda point for the meeting is the appointment of a Chairperson, a First Deputy Chairperson and a Second Deputy.
The letter which was addressed to all members of Parliament also states that in view of recent developments during meetings of Parliament including the Central Committee which was held on Wednesday, the eight members who signed the convocation for the meeting have all agreed that the meeting will be chaired by MP George Pantophlet.
The letter also states that additional information to substantiate this request and the decision to have MP Pantophlet chair this meeting will be sent before the meeting.
The meeting had been scheduled to take place at 6pm.
The eight MP's who signed the convocation are; MP's William Marlin, Sarah Wescot-Williams Silveria Jacobs, Christophe Emmanuel, Silvio Matser, Frans Richardson, Maurice Lake and George Pantophlet.
It was on Wednesday morning that a small group of supporters aligned with the incoming coalition government, protested the fact that the Government is forcing the completion of the procedure as it relates to the invoking of article 59 of the constitution of Sint Maarten.
The protest was ended after 11am when the police ordered the blockading heavy equipment vehicles to be removed.
This also followed an incident where a protester tried to chain the entrance door of the Government Administration Building.
