Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - Although he is the most popular man on the island, the home of MP Theo Heyliger became the target of burglarson Tuesday afternoon.
The popular leader of the UP political party have always stated that he faces the same threats from crime as everyone else in the St. Maarten community.
MP Heyliger or his family members were not at home at the time of the intrusion during which the thieves made off with jewelery and electronic items.
Quite recently though high profile court cases and media blog attacks against MP Heyliger has also served to make the MP more of a target in the St. Maarten community.
Allegations have been made to indicate that huge sums of money may be available at the home of the MP, a rather ridiculous sentiment that is being fanned by the verbal flames of the blogs and the other entities seeking legal battles with the MP.
The MP lives with his wife and children at their home in Guana Bay along with his mother Aggie Wathey who also resides on the same propperty.
The break-in was reported and the police is said to be investigating the crime.
Statements attributed to MP Heyliger states that he is very concerned about the well being of his family. He is quoted as saying that "his children and mother are very uneasy about staying in the house".
"Our police officers do their best every day. We as a community need to take care of each other and realize many untrue statements about haves and have nots can quickly turn people into targets," he said.
