Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
NEW YORK--Despite increasing college and university tuition cost in the United States, St. Maarten students attending Monroe College in New York will continue to benefit from discounted tuition, housing and meal plan rates.
Education Minister Silveria Jacobs has “successfully renegotiated†an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Government of St. Maarten and Monroe College.
For the Fall and Winter semesters, St. Maarten students will receive a 28 per cent discount on tuition, fees, dormitory and meal plan. Taking into account St. Maarten’s financial contribution of US $7,500 per semester, this means that the parental or students’ own contribution will be US $1,250 per semester. For the Spring or Summer semester students will receive a 54 per cent discount on tuition, fees, dormitory and meal plan. The parental or students’ own contribution will be US $580.
During her visit to Monroe College, Jacobs met with the president of Monroe College Dr. Stephen Jerome and received a tour of the New Rochelle and Bronx campuses. The Minister got a demonstration of the Criminal Justice and Nursing simulator training programmes. She also met with St. Maarten students currently attending Monroe College.
During this meeting, students informed Jacobs of their study progress, concerns and exchanged ideas and views on current matters in an open and frank discussion.
Monroe offers a range of certificate, Associate, Bachelor's and Master's Degree programmes including new programmes such as Diagnostic Medical Sonography and Sports Management. The College stands out for many reasons and one of those reasons is its faculty. Monroe’s Professors are more than just instructors. Most professors (former New York Police Department detectives, business leaders, chefs or nurses) bring invaluable experience into the classroom and they make sure their students benefit from their practical knowledge, it was stated in a press release.

Monroe College is ranked Most Affordable Private College in New York State by US News and World Report and ranked third in New York Online bachelor’s degree programmes.
Jacobs thanked Monroe College Vice President Marc Jerome, Vice President of Admissions Craig Patrick, Dean of Admissions Gersom Lopez, Dean of Academics Karenann Carty and Manager Caribbean Region Lorraine Meyers. She extended a “special thank you†to Special Projects Coordinator Kimarah Isaac, who worked tirelessly with Calvin Mardembrough to facilitate the visit and the MOU.
