Coup d'état by the Dutch Second Chamber

Dear Editor,

Noticeably was that one day after the Parliamentary Election that was held on August 29, that some members of the Second Dutch Chamber were already happy to know that a three-party government was formed and was very quick to let the world know of their preference.

It makes me wonder if they were involved in the Parliamentary election from the start.

Quick to notice also was the fact that after such three-party government formation was mentioned and known there was no accusation and witch-hunt for the leader of the United People's (UP) party. It was to believe that all went well with the election and with the democratic process of our election.

But, as the news broke out that a new government was to be formed between the UP party and Minister De Weever that is when all hell broke loose for the Dutch Second Chamber.

All of a sudden there was a fire in St. Maarten that need to be extinguished by infiltration by means of the justice system, and then making way for a possible prosecution of the leader of the UP party.

Even though Minister Plasterk informed the Members of Parliament in the Dutch Second Chamber of the separation of powers they felt that he was wrong and still believe that they can do as they feel, in a manner by ignoring the existing laws on separation of powers, especially knowing that we are a country within the kingdom of the Netherlands.

Knowing the way that the Dutch are pursuing this whole matter and ignoring the laws makes me realise that they are maybe after several things which I would want to point out;

* Making sure that the National Alliance is in power for whatever political gain they might have with such;

* Making sure that the UP party never gets into government by making sure its leader is prosecuted and defamed;

* After all this hoping that the St. Maarten population when going to a referendum choose for becoming an overseas province of Holland so that Holland will be able to control politicians and the island's economy possibly to their benefit;

* To pursue and eliminate all who have their own mind, thinking and can analyse what is going on;

* Finally, to make sure a system of apartheid is introduce through a justice system, after all then it will become law.

After having said all this I am truly grateful to Minister Plasterk for emphasizing to the members of the Dutch Second Chamber the fact that there is a separation of powers laid down in the present relationship.

The members should be investigated and after prosecuted if it is proven that they are involved in any conspiracy to ignore the democratic process that we have here; and also, if they are found guilty in trying to manipulate the people of St. Maarten and seeking political gain in Holland by ridiculing some or only one political party, namely the UP party, so that they can never see the light in government.

All this is premeditated and this warrants an investigation by Minister Plasterk if he so deems necessary.

I strongly believe that this type of intervention by the Dutch Second Chamber, a one- political-party witch hunt, in order to get the UP party out of Government, is to be compared with a coup d'état: a sudden decisive exercise of force in politics, especially the violent overthrow or alteration of an existing government by a small group (Dutch Second Chamber), is unlawful and warrants prosecution.

I am afraid that this type of intervention by the Dutch Second Chamber into our election democracy is unlawful and will ultimately lead to apartheid.

We are supposed to be equal partners in the Kingdom and should respect each other and not meddle with a parliamentary election outcome, just because you do not favour a political party or leader in power.

Let's take a look of what we have to insure good governance;

* Integrity committee report

* Integrity training

* CFT (financial supervision) a form of higher supervision

* Governor appointed by the King (a form of higher supervision)

* St. Maarten Constitution.

* Dutch justice chain of command.

I can go on and on, yet the Dutch Second Chamber feels that St. Maarten is a banana republic? So the Dutch Second Chamber wants us to believe that our judges, governor, CFT, integrity training and everything else is all of a sudden wrong just because they did not get the coalition that they preferred and so will now try a Coup d'état, well God help us all!

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time! I am of the opinion that the Dutch Second Chamber should be under investigation for their ways of trying to influence the formation of a democratically elected government.

God Bless St. Maarten.
