Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
Dear Editor,
Franklin Meyers wants the Dutch government to “pass legislation to help feed my people of St. Maarten and to alleviate my people from poverty.†Mr. Meyers has been part of the governing party of St. Maarten many times, first with DP and then with UPP, now HE'S BACK with UPP and I have a simple question to ask him. What did you do for the people while you were in government, to feed the people and to alleviate them from poverty? I’ll answer that and the answer is: nothing.
When UPP was in power a few years ago and the Pelican workers were going through a difficult time, where were the UPP members that were supposed to be protecting the hungry workers? I’ll answer that too: nowhere.
We had Mr. Give-We-9 Jules James supporting the cronies of Pelican management, and the Honourable Romain Laville in tears not wanting to throw his colleague under the bus, although he knew James was not doing the right thing, Mr. HE’S BACK and Theo were not thinking about any kind of march then. Where the hell was Tochie, Elton Jones and the rest of the red-hands-on-white-T-shirts people?
So why now must the people of Ole Sweet St. Maarten Land come out support a movement of a group of people that feel threatened by Dutch politicians. This group is going all the way back to the days of slavery, claiming colonialism, telling us that the Dutch want to take over Ole sweet St. Maarten Land. Pure nonsense they are telling us and we are not buying it. All the Parliamentarians said no to the Dutch, but only UPP members were present…what a thing.
Maybe it's time for a referendum in order to see how much the people really want the status quo, or for Dutch intervention in Ole Sweet St. Maarten Land politricks.
