PHILIPSBURG:--- Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports (ECYS) Rodolphe Samuel said on Wednesday at the Council of Ministers press conference that he met with the Catholic School Board to gain information on the allegations of sexual harassment at the St. Dominic High School.
The Minister explained that while he met with the school board they did not go into the content of the report on the research the school board conducted.
Samuel said he left that meeting with the understanding that the Catholic School Board would report the incident but later the school board informed him by letter that they would not make any report because the country does not have any specific law in place that would compel school boards to report such incidents.
Samuel said the school board indicated to him in their letter that the law that is now in place does not indicate that they must make a report. The Minister of ECYS said that his ministry has started with the upgrading of the law to make reporting possible, he said while the Catholic School Board is aware of the upgraded law, they said they do not have to have to adhere to any law that is not yet active.
Asked if he as Minister of ECYS asked the President of the Catholic School Board if a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) was signed between the families of the victim and the school board. Samuel said he did not ask such questions.
