Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG--Democratic Party ((DP)) will "pick up" the two draft initiative laws on the establishment of a timeshare authority and the regulation of the sector submitted to Parliament in its first sitting by former (DP) Member of Parliament Leroy de Weever.
(DP) leader MP Sarah Wescot-Williams informed Parliament Chairman Dr. Lloyd Richardson on Wednesday of her party's intention to continue the process with the draft laws. Initiators are responsible for the process of seeing a draft law through Parliament. It is also customary for a fraction in Parliament to continue the process started by one or more of its members, who are no longer in Parliament.
Wescot-Williams said in a press statement she has informed Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Claret Conner of her intentions. She has suggested to the minister they meet "to plan the way forward" with the draft laws. "I did so to avoid any overlapping and or doubling of efforts."
The Advisory Council had already given Parliament its comments on the draft laws in July 2014. That step is a prerequisite for the further handling of the draft law. This is the stage at which Wescot-Williams has ascertained the two draft laws stand now.
