Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
St. Maarten –Drs. Gracita Arrindell is a candidate to fill the position for St. Maarten at the Council of State in The Hague, the former president of parliament confirmed to this newspaper on Saturday. The appointment has not yet been formally announced.
Arrindell would succeed Dennis Richardson who sat on the council until he was appointed minister of justice in the third Wescot-Williams cabinet in 2013. Richardson said shortly after he became a minister that his intention was to return to the Council of State after the 2014 elections. He was however reappointed to his department in the Marcel Gumbs cabinet.
Arrindell is a member of the United People’s party. In the elections in August of last year, she won 139 votes, 66 shy of a seat in the new parliament.
Before Arrindell joined the UP in 2010, she led her own party, the PPA (People’s Progressive Alliance) and was a member of the Island Council.
