PHILIPSBURG:--- The eight members of Parliament who have affixed their signature to the attached declaration, assuring their commitment to break the deadlock that exists, do so convinced that any delay tactic at this eleventh hour will not result in any reconsideration by the Dutch government for St. Maarten. These members are
T. Heyliger, S. Wescot, F. Meyers, P. Gerry, T. Leonard, C. Connor, S. Bijlani and C. Brownbill.

We have to say what we mean and mean what we say. It is an unfortunate position this country finds itself in and without pointing fingers we believe that the relationship between the Dutch government and the Government of St Read more

Minister Christopher Emmanuel To Coalition Partners “Anyone In Line With Dutch Position Should Not Be Part Of The Coalition.”

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — This is the statement that apparently caused the bombshell statement by the leader of the Democratic Party and Chairlady Sarah Wescot-Williams during a tension-filled parliamentary meeting on Friday last.

It was clear even before the Chairlady’s “announcement” on Friday that the ire of Democratic Party was invoked, when DP member Perry Geerlings in no uncertain terms disagreed with the Prime Minister’s handling of especially the request for aid from the Netherlands.

To make matters worse, Minister Emmanuel’s statement was reiterated on October 26, 2017, as follows: “I have said it before and I will say it again anyone agreeing with the conditions should not be part of this government Read more

PHILIPSBURG:---  St. Maarten Lion’s Club president, A. Busby and Lion members Gumbs, Boirard and Johnson recently held discussions with the President of Parliament Sarah Wescot-Williams, regarding Lion’s Club focus on the youth for this lionistic year. Central to this theme are the topics of drug and alcohol use and abuse and cyber bullying.

Bringing the permit ordinance that regards the sale of alcohol to minors in synch with the legal age of 18 was again a topic of discussion as was the need for a broad discussion on (cyber) bullying.

It was explained by the President of Parliament that tabling the initiative law to amend the permit ordinance as presented by the Minister of ECYS in her former capacity of MP, was still possible, but needs to be done by the NA faction in Parliament.

On the topic of bullying, the President of Parliament expressed her opinion that Parliament would gladly collaborate through hearings etc Read more
