Wyccf Quality Nurse Claudette Rijff Receives First Covid-19 Vaccine On Monday

GREAT BAY, Sint Maarten (DCOMM) On Monday morning February 22, the first COVID-19 vaccine inoculations took place, a very important step in heading into a post-COVID-19 era.

The White and Yellow Cross Care Foundation (WYCCF) at St. Johns Estate, was the place where the first COVID-19 vaccine in the country took place. The event which was live streamed via the Government of Sint Maarten Facebook page, started out by Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs officially launching the vaccination campaign. 

In her opening remarks, the Prime Minister mentioned the impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the community which started almost a year ago. The loss of loved ones as well as the harsh financial impact on the national economy were some of the key areas that the Prime Minister point out. 

Jacobs added how the country has been looking forward to the day that the vaccine would become available and that day is finally here, the day that the Government commences with phase 1 of the COVID-19 vaccination rollout plan. 

Acting Minister of Public Health, Social Development, and Labor (Ministry VSA), Ludmila de Weever, addressed in her opening remarks on behalf of Minister of VSA Richard Panneflek, that Monday marked a special milestone for the country.

Minister Ludmila De Weever Announces Use Of All Fda Approved Antigen Rapid Tests For Usa & Canadian Passengers

Philipsburg, Sint Maarten — After consultation and approval of Minister of Public Health, Social Development and Labor Richard Panneflek, Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunications, Ludmila de Weever, is very happy to announce a move that will surely assist in increasing our tourist numbers and airline load factors.

As of February 17, 2021 passengers arriving from the United States of America and Canada can use all FDA approved rapid antigen tests for travel to Sint Maarten.
This includes those antigen tests with Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) as well.
This does not include At Home Tests.

PHILIPSBURG:--- Independent Member of Parliament Christophe Emmanuel on Friday questioned Minister of TEATT Ludmila de Weever about the financial status of the Bureau of Telecommunication & Post, in particular, governments role over the years with the much talked about BTP building in Philipsburg and who owes who in the process. Emmanuel also questioned if a person with a legal conviction on his record still sits on the board of BTP.

The MP used his time to speak in the Central Committee meeting to ask the minister how did BTP enhance its revenue-generating capacity since its inception after 2010, from which industry segments are revenues generated and he asked the Minister to elaborate on revenue increase or decrease per industry segment and support with the probable cause for the increase or decrease.

Dominican Republic Travel Ban To Be Lifted

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten – As per Friday, February 12th, the travel ban put in place to restrict the movements of people traveling from the Dominican Republic to Sint Maarten will be lifted.

The measures were introduced in an effort to prevent the spread of the contagious new variant of Coronavirus by persons coming traveling from the Dominican Republic.

The lifting of the ban was announced Wednesday morning by the Honorable Minister in charge of TEATT, Ludmila de Weever.

While the travel restriction will be lifted, residents traveling from the Latin American country will need to have a negative 72 hours Covid 19 PCR test, before getting on a flight to the island.
