Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
CAY HILL--No babies were born in St. Maarten on Christmas Day, however, two bouncing bundles of joy entered the world on Boxing Day, Friday, December 26.
The first baby, an eight pound girl named Raylesha, was delivered by midwife Regina Janga at 10:30am on Friday to parents Rayshantly Amerikaan and Ilegio Illidge. This is Rayshantly's first child. Both parents work at McDonald's. "I feel very happy," the proud mother, a Dutch Quarter resident, said when asked how she feels getting her baby on a holiday.
The mother said she began to feel pain on Christmas night and she went to St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) at around 8:00pm. She was admitted and as her contractions intensified, she delivered by natural birth on Friday.
The second baby Nathan Brayden Tristan was delivered by gynaecologist Dr. Courtar at 2:40pm to parents Frances and Duran Aaron. Frances said she woke up in pain on Christmas Eve and went to SMMC on Christmas Day around 10:30am. Her contractions were just ten minutes apart during the day. Around 3:00am on Boxing Day her contractions intensified and although she tried to deliver naturally, she ended up doing a caesarean section to deliver her first child.
Frances is an employee at Aqua Mania Adventure while Duran is an Admin/truck driver. Baby Nathan weighs 8.28 pounds. "It didn't matter what day he was born, I am just happy that it's over with," Frances said adding that the baby was due on December 15.
