Become A Part Of The Solution

Born of a St. Maarten father and a Saban mother, I was raised in a family with strong Biblical values.

I left my parental home to further my education abroad, and took those values with me. Like most youngsters, when I tried to do my own thing, those values would tug at my conscience and keep me in line.

Living, studying and working in the Netherlands have taught me to rely on the values I was brought up with, and which I will carry with me for the rest of my life. The teaching I have received at home, the experience I gained abroad and the fact that God has kept me, have shaped me into the person I am today Read more

St. Maarten News—A financial consultant who has been visiting St. Maarten for several years, is concerned with the lack of opportunities for young people here. Letter To The Editor

As a God-fearing woman/wife/mother of three I decided to take up this new challenge to run for Parliament in the upcoming elections.

My reason for doing so is the fact that through the years I have seen a lot of changes in St. Maarten. Some good and some extremely bad that were not in the best interest of our people. St. Maarten has become a country of many surprises especially by those in whom we have put our trust.

For example, you can wake up any morning just to hear that the government has fallen Read more

The Silver Lining Of A Disastrous Six Years Of Country Status!

PHILIPSBURG, Sint Maarten — Today, after I washed towels, cleaned my fan, made milk pops for the kids (well, actually I fight for them also) and cooked lunch for my family, of course I started reflecting on St. Maarten and the problems facing us as a people. These thoughts are ever present in my mind.

In the past 6 years, we had 5 governments, which included various combinations of the same groups of persons, which have failed to demonstrate the moral fortitude and maturity required to run this new status.

Initially everyone, including myself, saw this as a ridiculous situation and a political nightmare, but I think we need to start to see it as a “blessing” in disguise Read more

PHILIPSBURG:--- My thought on the St. Maarten Day of Worship 2016, held on July 5th, at the Walter Plantz Pier: Good Initiative and great potential for a summer activity. This if managed well could be included in our summer tourism package. It however, was unfortunate that politics sneaked into the event. Why do I say this? Several patrons expressed their disgust that during the event political pamphlets were handed out. Notwithstanding these pamphlets regarded the St Read more
