Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - In light of the recent dismissal of the director of National Institute for Professional Advancement (NIPA), Vernon Richards, Deputy Leader of the National Alliance and chairperson of the committee for Education, Culture, Sports and Youth Affairs of Parliament, the Honorable Silveria Jacobs stated that the situation is troubling.
According to her, the issue was brought to the attention of the government in January of this year, at which time, the Minister in charge of Education, the Honorable Rita Bourne-Gumbs vowed to deal with the situation at the institution, among others issues plaguing the school.
However, the Minister is yet to inform Parliament of the necessary steps taken to curb the problem.
The chairperson of the Education Committee of Parliament, MP Silveria Jacobs also made it emphatically clear that she does not agree with the termination of the director of the institution.
