Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - A meeting which was called for by members of Parliament of the Democratic Party, the National Alliance and the United St. Maarten Party along with Member of Parliament, the Honorable Maurice Lake to appoint the chair person as well as a vice chairperson of Parliament on Tuesday morning abruptly ended.
The meeting was chaired by Independent Member of Parliament, the Honorable Cornelius de Weever.
Speaking on the floor of Parliament prior to the closing of the meeting, he stated that the Prime Minister has submitted a National Ordinance to dissolve Parliament according to article 59 of the constitution, and as a result, as chairman, he has asked for legal clarification regarding the issue.
It is for this reason he made use of article 37 of the Rules of Order of the Parliament of St. Maarten to close the meeting.
