*** Update ***: Rental Cars Seized As A Result Of Long Term Investigation

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – On January 26, 2016 the Criminal Investigation Team (RST) seized in close collaboration with the Police Corps of Sint Maarten at various places on the island total of nine cars.These cars are owned by a car rental agency.

The seizure was done based on the strong suspicion that these were purchased with money that has, among other things been obtained from the trade in narcotics and that money was laundered through the rental company.

The owner (721news note: Latoya Flanders) of the rental company some time ago was shot on the French side. As a result an investigation was started by the RST under the direction of the Public Prosecution Service on St. Maarten.

The confiscation of the cars from the car rental are a consequence of this investigation.

An investigation is still ongoing and will also look into the origin of the cars and the links to the rental company.The purpose of this investigation is to deny or take away the criminal assets. After all, crime does not pay.

PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten – Law enforcement was kept busy Friday December 06, 2013 with what seems to be a large scale criminal investigation.

Officers were observed at several locations conducting searches and after inquiring about the ongoing operation the office of the Public Prosecutor confirmed that a criminal investigation was ongoing.

Today, Friday December 6, 2013 in five houses and three company buildings in Sint Maarten house searches took place. These premises are located in Point Blanche, Cole Bay and Suckergarden, amongst others areas. The house searches were led by the judge of instruction in presence of the public prosecutor.

The house searches had place in a criminal money laundering investigation, called “Bromelia”. Bromelia is an investigation of the Recherche Samenwerkingsteam (RST).

RST cooperated with the Korps Politie Sint Maarten (KPSM), as well as with the French Police at a house search in Saint Martin.

During the searches, in particular was sought for administration. Goods like documents/administration and data carriers were confiscated for further investigation. Also five cars and one truck were confiscated.

One person was arrested, a man O.D., for possession of a fire arm. In September 2013, also six suspects were arrested for possession of firearms, narcotics and a significant amount of money. Four suspects are still in pre-trial detention. After those arrests investigation Bromelia started.

Regarding the ongoing investigation no further information can be disclosed.
