PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - During its meeting on Thursday, June 23rd, the Parliament of St. Maarten dealt with the approval report on exchange of views with Dr. Julio Robelto Romney on the proposed Election Ordinance.

The proposal of Dr. Romney to amend the draft Election Ordinance was a point of discussion in the Parliament of St. Maarten in November of 2015 and again in January and March of this year, during a Central Committee meeting.

The proposal of Dr. Romney calls for amendments to be made to the legislation to correspond with the constitutional requirement of the proportional representation in article 47 section 1 of the constitution.

During the meeting on Thursday of last week, the Parliament unanimously accepted the document, which will now be sent to the government for handling.

The Chairlady of Parliament is the Honorable Sarah Wescot Williams.

Meanwhile, speaking to our news department, Dr. Romney noted that he is pleased with the decision of Parliament to unanimously accepted the report and that the document will now be sent to the Council of Ministers.

He also told us that he is looking forward to being contacted by government to further discuss the draft legislation, as it pertains to ship jumping.

More can now be heard via PodCast.
