Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
HARBOUR VIEW, Sint Maarten – On Thursday September 25, 2014, His Excellency Governor Eugene B. Holiday met with the leader of the United People's Party, Mr. Theodore E. Heyliger.
During the meeting Mr. Theodore E. Heyliger presented the Governor a coalition agreement for the period 2014-2018 for the governing of Sint Maarten.
This agreement has been signed by the seven elected members to Parliament of the UPP and elected member to Parliament Mr. Van Hugh C. de Weever.
In view of these developments the leader of the National Alliance Party Mr. William V. Marlin informed Governor Holiday that the majority in Parliament necessary for the formation of the planned NA/DP/US coalition government no longer exists.
He therefore thanked Governor Holiday for having requested him to take on the task as formateur and decided to cease his activities to form a government.
Based on the new circumstances Governor Holiday immediately decided to start new consultations in order to arrive at the formation of a new Cabinet.
These consultations have taken place today with the leaders of all the political parties who will have a seat in Parliament as from 10 October 2014 and with the Vice-Chairperson of the Advisory Council.
The Governor is now considering further steps to be taken based on today's consultations.
