Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
Dear Editor,
The lack of moral principles has changed our political landscape significantly, as politicians continue to gobble from the slop trough, while the rest of society is forced to watch in constant despair. After this recent episode there is nothing left to question anymore, and so our only source of consolation is education and self-reliance.
I like the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. who said, "A genuine leader is not a searcher for consensus, but a molder of consensus." This awesome orator and man of principle evoked the thoughts of his followers when he reminded them that, "The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at a time of challenge and controversy." To conclude the wise teaching on this honourable man, he challenged them to take life in strides when he said so eloquently, "If I cannot do great things, I can do small things in a great way." These guiding principles were his anchor, which enabled him to make such an impact throughout America and the entire world. His spiritual relationship with his Creator helped him to avoid the snares that would have otherwise created a vacuum for others to question his principles and so he remained consistent with his message, regardless of the direction or force of the raging tides.
To avoid much of this constant emptiness, the electorate has to come to the harsh reality that there are only two political parties, DP/UP (the same) and National Alliance. All the other parties are just distractions. If this is clearly understood, it would eliminate all or lessen most of the distress, because they would be contented with their choices. There is no doubt that our politicians have lost total connection with their spiritual self. When this vital component is replaced by self-interest, which is in essence the driving force behind their decisions, then we know for sure that they have lost all moral principles. If our elected officials have no principles, then it would be very easy for them to fall for everything and anything.
Do we see why Holland is doing all that it can to infuse integrity and stamp out corruption? But, politicians have become much too familiar with the thinking of society and that is why they are able to pull the veil over our faces every single time, with their illogical and baseless justification. Picture this nonsensical reasoning: the board has unanimously agreed with the decision of the US leader. If the votes from the board are equivalent to the two seats, then the matter is justifiable. Other than that, the explanation is just utter nonsense.
This political heist came much later than expected, because this was brewing all the time. At the very inception of the NA-led coalition this negotiation was taking place. The only reason why this scenario did not transpired then is because the US leader was chastised severely by a confidant, who is like a brother to him. When a leader can tell Holland to 'shut up' (literally kiss his rear) and shortly after, dined with them in Holland, Aruba and expected to in May, there is nothing more to wonder about. This is why the US leader could not say much to his number two candidate, she knew too much. As I mentioned in a preceding article: the S in US was just a typographical error. We never know who was the financier behind a political party. School children say...Ouch!
Can we imagine if the UP leader was a womanizer? Oh Lord have mercy, he would wreck every relationship possible, that is why he is as cool as a fridge because he has already tested their character and he knows that 99 per cent of all the politicians are as weak as a new born.
Wake up people! Strengthen your spiritual self and you will be surprise how much you can depend on yourself.
