Unbiased look at the Sint Maarten Elections
PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten - The House of Parliament met in a public plenary session on Tuesday afternoon.
This session was the continuation of the initial meeting that was held on December 22nd of last year.
The meeting was at the request of the National Alliance, the Democratic Party and the USP, and dealt with among others, the request to the Governments Accountants Bureau SOAB to carry out a forensic investigation into the operations of the St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation (SMHDF); the decision of the board of the SMHDF to suspend several members of the management team and the request of the former Minister of VROMI, Maurice Lake. Prime Minister, the Honorable Marcel Gumbs is the interim Minister of housing.
Whilst speaking on the floor of Parliament on Tuesday, and in providing answers to the many questions asked regarding the actions of the former Minister of housing pertaining to an audit to be carried out, he indicated that Maurice Lake had given an advice to SOAB and not an order to halt the audit of the SMHDF.
The Prime Minister also addressed matters pertaining to the suspension of several members of the management team of the St. Maarten Housing Development Foundation.
