Bvi Food Fete Adds New Events, Celebrity Chefs To Lineup, Including Top Chef Masters Season Four Finalist Kerry Heffernan

TORTOLA, British Virgin Islands - As part of the third annual BVI Food Fete, the British Virgin Islands Tourist Board is announcing the addition of several highly regarded visiting chefs to appear throughout the festival. Of note, Chef Kerry Heffernan, a Top Chef Masters Season Four Finalist, the former executive chef of Eleven Madison Park, and the current impresario of the new Manhattan restaurant Grand Banks have joined the lineup.

Food Fete, a month-long celebration of the culinary offerings of the BVI, will feature oceanside dining, special tasting menus, bar crawls, dessert showcases, unique property offerings, and more.

The BVI Tourist Board previously announced that NYC-based Chefs Michael Ferraro and Christopher Faulkner would be in attendance, and now, just a few weeks before Food Fete kicks off on October 30, the stellar lineup of chefs continues to grow:

Calypsonians Informed: Deadline To Submit Music Sheets Is December 1St.

PHILIPSBURG:--- RAW Promotions Foundation, the entity charged with organizing the 2017 NAGICO Calypso competition, met with the 23 calypsonians who signed up to participate in the 2017 NAGICO Calypso competition on Friday evening, October 14th,in the A. C. Wathey Legislative hall, where the Calypsonians were informed of the developments of the competition.
Important to note is that the deadline for the Calypsonians to have their music sheets delivered to the accompanying band is Thursday, December 1st, 2016.
The band that will accompany the calypsonians in the 2017 NAGICO calypso competition is "D Orchestra" under the directions of Neville "Fatts" James.
In order to begin rehearsals in early January 2017 the band must be in possession of the music sheets of all calypsonians, with the exception of Shakira, the 2016 Monarch, who will not be participating in the eliminations Read more

PHILIPSBURG:--- Fifteen volunteers from the St. Maarten Tzu Chi Foundation, aged five to 65, braved the hot sun and dedicated a portion of their day on Saturday, October 15, to help transport more than 60 tables and chairs from Tzu Chi's former pilot humanitarian school to All Children’s Education (ACE) Foundation's new location in Cole Bay.

One of the volunteers said when she realized that the effort was for ACE students, she was more than happy to dedicate her time to the volunteer effort.

PHILIPSBURG:--- The preliminary round of the Scotiabank Rotary-Rotaract Spelling Bee 2016 was held on Sunday 16th October at the Belair Community Center. This is the sixth time the Spelling Bee is being held and was started by the late President Ramesh Manek in 2011.

Relocation GEBE’s new generator incident-free

CAY BAY–The relocation of utilities company GEBE’s new diesel generator (Engine 20) from the Port in Pointe Blanche to its final location at the production plant in Cay Bay on Sunday morning was successful and incident-free.

Sharks Project Places First Satellite Tag On Tiger Shark

COLE BAY--The Dutch Caribbean Nature Alliance (DCNA) “Save Our Sharks Project” started its Shark Research Initiative on St. Maarten two weeks ago, with renowned shark scientists and underwater videographers joining teams from Nature Foundation and Saba Conservation Foundation in researching and tagging various species of sharks in local waters and on the Saba Bank. As part of this research the first tiger shark has been tagged with a satellite transmitter in the Eastern Caribbean.

Prevention The Keyword For Internal Security Open Day

MARIGOT--The Préfecture organised its annual internal security open day in collaboration with the Collectivité for the first time in Grand Case in the car park of the Cultural Centre on Friday.

As usual this particular day shines the spotlight on the services that keep the population safe, day in day out all year round.

Organised in the form of an exhibition with information stands and demonstrations added for dramatic effect, the objective is to spread awareness of the role each service plays.
